I think "they" are on to something here. First... while bringing in stuff from the car, my 2 yr. old spills my ever present cup of coffee on my cell phone. After letting it dry for hours it finaly decides I've suffered enough and is going to turn on again... but now it makes an odd crackling noise anytime a button is pushed, can't be good.
THEN my friend got her daughter an Ipod Nano for her birthday, they bring it to my house so that I can show her how to hook everything up and show her how to use it and give her some of my music... damn thing would not do ANYTHING. After googling, reconnecting, downloading, resetting, reconnecting, downloading, swearing... I finaly came to the conclusion that she got a bum Ipod. After calling the Wally World that it was purchased at and dealing with a bitchy "customer service" lady, my friend (very luckily) found the recipt and drove 20 miles at 8:30pm to return this thing for a mp3 player with twice as much memory and all of the cool functions as the ipod for the same price. (would that be a run-on sentence?) The not bitchy manager mentioned that almost every ipod sold in the last 2 months had been returned.
SO she brings the NEW mp3 player over and while trying to hook it up to my not paid for yet laptop, I get... dadadadaaaa... THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. After trying to start in every mode possible (to me, not my husband), I gave up, plugged the thing into my desktop, got it going, ssllloooooowly closed the lid to my now possessed laptop (i'm so proud of myself for not throwing it out my window), grabbed my puppy chewed up remote control and commenced watching 2003 no limit texas hold'em.
It's like some bad Steven King movie, all of the electronics are ganging up on us, determined not to be slaves to us and make our lives a living hell with no outside communication, music, or mindless computer games. (cheesy B-movie horror scream!!!!)

long time no see

I'm sitting at work doing this entry on my PDA so pardon the abbreviations.
It's been brought to my attention that I have been neglecting my resposibilities as a proud owner of a crochet blog. I hate to say this but... crochet has taken a back burner since opening this restaurant. I know, I know. Something besides crochet? Trust me, I'd rather be crocheting. This seems more like W-O-R-k. 4 letter word. We've only been open a little over a month and i think we'll do fine once we find our niche. We are staying ahead of the game money wise but not enough to pay bills AND yarn.
Regardless... I have been working on a few things. A fall jacket, still trying to finish that christening gown. Pretty much the same things I've been working on 4 two months. I need to finish a project soon.
well... I had better start feeding the masses. But when it starts to affect the children, there is a problem. I was raised to believe that I should be able to make my own decisions about what religious preference I would acquire when I became old enough to KNOW what religion was. Not following blindly what older, "wiser" people told me I should believe. Instead, to make up my OWN mind. Now... My 8 year old son wants to join the Boy Scouts. His father and step-father both were members and received their eagle scout badges. Naturally, he wants to join the scouts to do all of the fun things that he sees all of his friends doing. Three years in a row we have put our name on the list and NOT ONCE have we been contacted about joining. I decided to look into this further and found out that my son is being put aside because of the fact that we want him to grow up to make his own decisions. We do talk to him about religion, he has grown up in a religious community with many LDS family members who have tried to convince him that he should be baptized, against our will. The Boy Scouts of America claim that they are open to all boys. BULL SHIT. I feel that my husband and myself have become respectable adults. Neither of us have been in jail. My husband has an engineering degree in computer science and is president of a successful software company. I just opened my own cafe and am pursuing a degree in geology. My children have a good home and have never gone hungry. So why should an innocent 8 year old child be excluded from an activity because he is not religious? Am I teaching my son not to be open minded to ALL aspects of life? NO. Am I teaching my son to be intolerant of people different than us? NO. But this seems to be the message that the largest organization for boys is doing. They are hiding behind their "private organization" excuse. The ONLY pack in this area is run by the LDS church so even if we were religious he would still be excluded if we were something other than Mormon. Am I pissed? YES. When he is old enough to realize why he was not allowed to join the Boy Scouts he will see what is means to be a hypocrite. To teach tolerance and understanding "if you fit in" is a sad thing.

How many U.F.O.'s do you have?

Everybody has those projects that just seem to take forever. I have... 6, i think, in progress right now. a purse, two blessing gowns, and two baby dresses (so i can't count, that would be 5). Not to mention i just bought yarn for 4 more projects. a kitchen housewarming gift, two baby blankets, and a jacket. Not to mention i'm trying to get 2 kids back to school and start my own business (which we finaly found a name for... Fadiemae's). So, to say the least, i have had very little time for crochet. I have had time to go 4 wheeling again though. I'm going again tomarrow for my birthday. How many times can a girl turn 21? We'll find out, this will be my 7th time.

So, How many U.F.O.'s do you have?

Texas hold em'

Brand new addiction! Texas Hold Em' poker on tv! What a concept! To watch OTHER PEOPLE LOSE MONEY! How wonderful it is. It's EVERYWHERE. Me personally, have never played the tables, I'm more of a 15 lines one bet per line on the penny machines type of a person. You wouldn't believe how fast you can lose $20 in pennies. What is that... 2000 pennies? wow. I may just have to try the tables this month in Jackpot, NV. Lynyrd Skynyrd concert! Yipee. I'm excited. Only been to two concerts before. Candlebox and then we went to Poison, Skid Row, and Vince Niel from Motley Crue. I don't think I could hear a thing for a week after that one.
But I digress... Poker, I'm sitting here watching celebrity poker showdown... much more entertaining than watching SERIOUS poker players. I'm going to have to practice my poker face, which is hard when my husbands favorite kind of poker includes stripping. Which by the way, is it cheating to wear 4 layers of clothes?

New business venture

Well, I'm taking the big leap. My last day at my job is the 5th of August. Do I have a backup plan... kindof... sortof... in a round about sort of way. My mother and I just leased a small cafe in Pocatello! It's perfect, not a fryer in the joint. Beautiful area in old-town. Hopefully we can keep our overhead down and profits up!

Work and everything else has kept me hopping, I haven't had much time to crochet. Soon though, The station that the cafe is in is only open from 8am-6pm so we have to be out by then, closed on sundays and holidays. How wonderful will it be!

puppies and kittens

Well, they are here, all 15 of 'em. On July 5th we became the proud grandparents of 11 puppies (not even her biggest litter) and 4 kittens. SAME DAY. Now we are positive of the paternity of the k9 offspring, our neighborhood brindled bull dog. Two look just like him. The sperm donor for the kittens will probably never be know without extensive DNA testing. They are all ADORABLE and if you want one... PLEASE TAKE ONE!!!

Just a side note, while I was writing this I talked to my best friend and SHE'S GOING TO HAVE A BABY! Good luck Heather... we love you!!! You know the one cup coffee pod thingy? You get a hot fresh cup of coffee in no time. Of course, I bought it and then 2 weeks later the price is cut in half. Go figure. I digress... The reason it probably ended up half off was because there was issues (like I have, but different) with the coffee pod holder breaking. ANYWAY... instead of just buying a new pod holder I went out the other day and bought the NEW AND IMPROVED Black & Decker Home Cafe. Gotta say, it's most definitely "improved". I can put my taller mugs in it, it has a "clean" option, push close instead of twist. The pods are a bit pricey and if your like me, you'll use 2 pods each time (just for the extra little umph). And who says french vanilla creamer isn't the shit? I'm addicted.

I GOT A NEW TO ME CAR!!!! I'm soooooooo excited. I got a 2003 Chevy Impala. I did some crocheting while I was there. Looking for yarn stores I found Gail's Knits, mentioned crochet and almost got hit by an upturning nose. Anyway, I did buy a couple rolls of yarn while I was in there. With the 2 hanks of FUN by Cascade yarns I made this cute little drawstring bag. I'm not sure I liked this yarn. It has a rough texture and takes on a hempish look.

I also got 2 balls of BELLA COLOUR by Plymouth Yarn. I LOVE THIS YARN. I so should have picked up more. I mad these two skull caps.

With some of my Peaches and Cream stash that I took with me i made this hand towel and scrubby.

On my last day there I found TWO CRAZY LADIES YARN. If you are ever in Vegas I recommend you go visit. Extremely nice, great selection, very helpful, and full of great ideas. I walked in the door and the first thing they told me was "everything is 40% or more off" YIPPIE!!! I got 3 hanks of FABLE by Artful Yarns.

AANNNNDDD 3 balls of SUEDE TRI-COLOR by Berroco. I want to make some bags I think. I have been searching through all of my pattern books and magazines for the perfect bags... I can not for the life of me find any that jump out at me.

When I got home guess what was in the mail. My new crochet hook case from CrippenWorks. OOOOOOH I LOVE IT. It's 100+ here in Vegas and I'm burning up. I've don 13 rows on the filet christening gown, it's a pain and i'm afraid it's going to become another U.F.O. :( Oh well. I've decided just to work on easy stuff like dish clothes while i'm here for now. It's relax time.

finished green fuzzy thing

Well, between working, t-ball, coach pitch, ballet, sleep, and life, I somehow finished another project! My green fuzzy thing. There is a picture of the pattern in the book and the finished product.

AND... I got my Annies Attic order today! YIPEE. I got my set of three crochet on a roll hooks, Top Technique & Special Stitch Afghans, and Baby Christening Sets. Then I went shopping and found Total Crochet Fashions at Wal-mart of all places for $15! And then off to Walden Books where I found the popular Stitch 'N Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker (<-- Video interview with author Debbie Stoller). Next project? I bought the thread to make the christening gown. It'll be my first attempt at filet but not my first christening gown. I made one a few years ago and it turned out wonderful but took for-ev-er. My mother-in-law has it, I need to get some pictures. This should keep me busy on my trip to vegas! ONLY 2 MORE WEEKS!

Happy Mothers Day!

To all of the wonderful mothers in my life, my own mother, my mother-in-law, my sisters, my friends, my family, and all other mothers that I have had the privilage to know. People are ASSES! Pardon my language but I just received about 30 emails to my account from the infamous "mailer daemon" that I'm sending out SPAM??? REALLY? That's news to me. Some jerk with a web crawler (thank my husband that I even know the term) picked up my address and decided to use it to send their junk. I am soooooo on an anti-people kick right now for several reasons and this just adds to my belief that we HAVE to stop over populating our planet with stupid, malicious, and just plain mean people. I mean really, what happened to natural selection? Darwin had it right except the fact that our species encourages stupidity. We bitch and bitch about Illegal aliens "taking our jobs" when if you look at corporate America and you realize that we don't need them to take our jobs, we're sending the jobs to them! Shit, they don't even need to leave their own country any more to have our jobs. Outsourcing? Who's brilliant idea was that? GAS PRICES... OOHHH MY GOD... GAS PRICES. Idaho has has the nation lows on gas prices, for that I feel a little lucky. I work for a major fuel company as low man on the totem poll and do you realize that their stocks DOUBLED last year. DOUBLED!!! Do you know where that money goes??? It sure as hell doesn't trickle down the ladder. nope... it stays right at the top while the base line employees, the ones who deal directly with the people buying their product, get screwed. Little by little they take things away. When I started 10 years ago we got little things, stock options, christmas party, decent benefits, a little bonus hear and there, free meal on shift, if you didn't take benefits you got 60% flex dollars, so on so forth. Now? NOTHING but a paycheck and shitty benefits. We don't even get a turkey for Thanksgiving any more. And they want to micro-manage. They give you less and less and want you to work more and more. The bosses come in and they tell you what you want to hear but eveybody knows they are sitting in their cushy little corporate offices and writing all these "rules" that are sooooo unrealistic. What happend to working your way up the ladder?

WOW, I feel somewhat better. A little. WAIT A SEC... I have a square piece that I intented to use as a wash cloth that would be PERFECT!!! okokok, I need a yarn needle...... I look... HERE

This is MY corner that also tends to accumulate things from every other member of the family. As I'm tearing things out (I know I have at least 5 yarn needles) I keep running into things I forgot I had... look at those cool beaded purse handles there on top under the round looms. Speaking of the knitting looms, each of my kids has a project going and they keep getting stuffed and tangled in MY UFO's! How rude!

You know? I think I need to organize my scrap yarn, it seems to be growing together into one large ball of...well...yarn.... HEY, is that ANOTHER unfinished project? Forgot about that one.

Don't scream in horror... please... no... really, Maybe I'll just buy ANOTHER set of drawers! yeah, that's it. Maybe. Use the yarn? Possibly. But, remember that pretty green fuzzy two ply stuff I bought?

Gotta use this first, I only bought 6. ;-P

something in the water

Is it just me or does everybody you know get pregnant at the same time??? My poor parents have 4 grandkids turning 2 this year... yes... 4. One of them is mine. It was very evenly distributed, 2 girls two boys. It makes for interesting get togethers.

Now we're having ANOTHER baby spurt... NOT ME!!! YAY!!! 3 of my friends are pregnant. SOOOOOO, what do you get them? Well, I look in my big bag of goodies and find I only have one blanked all crocheted up, gonna have to make some more. I bought some Peaches & Cream 4ply cotton yarn, (love the stuff) to make some wash cloths and small diaper bags that I'll fill with some store bought lotions and stuff. I'm almost done with one set, I'll finish them up today or tomarrow and take some pix.

I also bought some super soft and fuzzyish green 2 ply... stuff. Have to figure out what to do with it now. Maybe I'll take it with me to Vegas and actually take the time to finish a little something for myself.

What do you do with your finished projects? Most of the time I just start something with nothing in mind for it and end up giving it away as a just-because gift.

Sites I Visit

I wanted to yack about the links I put on here and tell you why I like them. I'll just go down the list!

Blogs

What Not To Crochet Is a site I ran into while browsing other crochet blogs. It brings together patterns that are so nauseating to look at or... just... UGH, but of course, very entertaining.

Coffee Crochet My two FAVORITE things. Witty entries and great patterns. Pull up a seat and grab a cup.

Crochet by the Hook A wonderful designer named Dot. I've been watching this blog for quite some time. Awsome patterns: Hats, Scarves, Ponchos, and much more.

Good Hooking Another blog I found while browsing (which I do quite a bit).

Karen's Knitting and Crochet Parlor She has GREAT TASTE!

Gadgetfreaks Park OK OK OK, I have another fetish... Gadgets. I spend a small fortune on batteries every year. My kids? Yes, they have lots of gadgets too. I have a $300 Dell Axim X5, a very expensive calculator. I love it. My cell phone for instance, camera, calendar, e-mail, web, calculator, I.M. What do I use it for? To talk to people. period. Do I want the new phone that does it all? OF COURSE! It has a camera, keyboard, walkie talkie, calculator... what would I do with it? Talk to people. (does everything have a calculator?)

Other sites I visit

Annies Attic I visit this site AT LEAST once a day, sometimes more. Ever since they updated their site, I have to see what the pattern of the day is, do the poll and read the blog. Most of my crochet supplies and patterns have probably come from Annies Attic.

Crochet Pattern Central The First place I look when looking for something specific. A HUGE collection of free patterns nicely organized into easy to find catagories. If you haven't seen this site... GO THERE NOW!

Crochet Me and For the Love of Yarn Online magazines with patterns, tips, articles, and classified ads.

Berocco The patterns are WOW. Check out the funky 70's colors shrug I made. And where can you buy Berocco yarn?

at Yarn Market of course.

WOOT!!! What can I say about Woot? One thing a day, $5 s & h. Remember my gadget fettish? I try to get here right when the new product is starting, wouldn't want to miss out because when it's gone... it's gone.

USGS Recent Earthquake Activity What is USGS you say? United States Geological Survey. You may have seen that I am going for a batchelors in geology. Yes... Rocks. I love rocks. As one professor proclaims, "they have feelings too." I've been almost a Junior at ISU for quite a while. I WILL return and finish. Food first.

Pogo Games... what else is there to say... He graduated with an engineering degree in computer science and instead of working for somebody else, is giving this a go. EVERYBODY WISH HIM LOTS O'LUCK.

Silver Jewelry Club You know those crackpot get stuff for free sites? This really is legit. Well, $5.99 s & h and you get yourself a very cool... piece of silver jewelry. They have 4 item online at a time and it revolves in and out throughout the day so check back often.

Think Geek Stuff for the smart masses! hehe, lots of gadgets, caffeine, funny shirts (everybody loves funny shirts).

And last but not least

Joann Fabric and Craft Another craft store, but I tend to just visit their store we have in town. Good sales.

That's that. Most of my favorite places on the big w.w.w. These are mostly the reason I don't get more crocheting done.

Crocheted purse

I finished my nylon thread purse!

It's been a looooong week. And since it's back to work tomarrow night for the rest of the week I'd better get this done tonight.

Hand made stitch markers

A couple of months ago I saw some handmade beaded stitch markers on E-bay and thought, "I can make those." So, off to the craft store to buy beads and wire. I just wanted a couple sets for myself and a few select friends. I got carried away and ended up making around 30 sets of all colors and sizes. SOOOOOOO, well, I tried to sell them on e-bay! I only sold 2 sets and now i have a few sets of knit stitch markers that fit onto the needles and I have open ended stitch markers that just fit over the work.

If you are interested in purchasing any just drop me a note. I would be happy to show you more.

HAPPY EASTER!!!

HAPPY EASTER EVERYBODY!

I hope everybody has a wonderful holiday with LOTS OF CANDY!!!

I've found that working with the nylon is a little ... stiff. I had to substitute for the peach in the original and used a darker pink instead.

Scrap yarn scarves Using size 50 knitting needles and 4-6 strands of specialty yarns combined with sport and worsted weight yarn.

Ok, speaking of knitting... I've tried, I can, I just can't get into it. The only problem is I LOVE THE LOOK. So, i'm biting my tongue and once in a while i'll pick up the needles and work on a sweater for the baby that I started. I bought a beginners knitting machine, played with it twice last year, haven't picked it up again. Maybe when I have a few days to do nothing but sit and knit I'll start a small project that I can finish.

graveyard shift

I've been working the graveyard shift at the restaurant I work at and it totaly screws up my days. It's not too bad because my husband works from home so I get to sleep. It also takes away most of my crochet time which is usually after the kids go to bed. BUT, I have had a chance to start the nylon thread ripple stitch purse I wanted to make!!! I'll try to get some pix posted as I go along. For now it's get the kids off to school and get some sleep.

Finished!

Now I can start on another purse. I'll be using the J.P. Coats Crochet Nylon that I bought. I was going to go for a chevron stitch. There is a pattern for one in my new purse pattern book I ALSO bought!

I would like to mention a new online crochet magazine called For the Love of Yarn. I ran across this while reading other crochet blogs. I will most definatley be adding this site to my site links. I LOVE IT. It incorporates patterns, articles, classifieds, and more into one easy to navigate, great looking site. CHECK IT OUT!!!

Just a couple more of my finished projects.

These are my most recent ones. I mentioned the Berocco shrug already (yesterday I think), what I didn't mention is what I did with the extra yarn. CrochetMe magazine has and AWSOME spike stitch pattern tutorial. I used this to make a matching drawstring clutch to go with the shrug.

The other project I just finished was in One Skein Kitchen Projects from Annies Attic. I made the placemats, hanging wall pocket, and shopping bag (alot smaller than I thought it was) for a friend who just bought a new house.

Went shopping!

Is it so terrible to get excited about a craft store closing? I mean... doesn't it mean that EVERYTHING goes on SALE? I just had to go. I couldn't see buying more yarn (even on sale) when I've been trying to get rid of excess anyway. Instead... I bought nylon thread! Pale pink and beige. I've seen the neatest purses made out of this and have been dying to try it out. I have a huge purse fettish anyway.
Since the store has been closing for two weeks, the pattern selection was down to doilies and dishcloths, I did happen to find two books that i've been thinking about getting "sometime". Lion Brands Just Scarves and Crochet Bags by Candi Jensen, speaking of purses. At 30% off I couldn't pass them up.
Now I just need to finish up the bag I'm working on now. I just have to finish up the strap, and then I can get to work! I'll also work on putting on more pictures of finished projects.

This is my sister-in-law Emily.

I mad this lapghan from Lion Brand Homespun for my sister-in-law Lindsi and her new husband Tim.

Isn't the carpet HIDEOUS??? She was going to be a big sister and to make her feel a little better about not being the baby anymore we remodled her room into a "big girl" room.

The dress in the middle ended up finding it's home on a Cabbage Patch Kid of my friends daughter. The dress on the bottom took me about 3 weeks. It's done with #10 thread and I searched forever for the pattern. It's in a discontinued book called Frilly Frocks. Since then, I have made one more (pictured on my Gypsy monster) and have had yet another sitting in a bag to "work on when I have time."

Lately I've just been trying to get rid of my leftovers. I went and bought a set of 50 knitting needles and have been using 5-6 strands of whatever I have (some even sort of match!) and making scarves. Maybe I should have done that BEFORE winter started. Oh well.

I've also been making shrugs and boleros. I made this awsome shrug last month. I even ordered the yarn so it was exactly the same colors (reminds me of my 70's baby blankie!) and it's soooo soft. One thing I found out... winding hanks into balls by hand is a real pain. Maybe I should invest in a ball winder... hmmmm.

Hello there!
I'm Fadrah and I'm going to give this blog thing a shot, I felt a little left out.
I have a few interests... OK, OK, OK, I have little nooks all around the house with "stuff of interest."
*BOOKS --> I LOVE to read, I think i've read 4-5 books in the last month, and no, they don't have pictures. All kinds of books, I'm on a fantasy kick right now.
*CROCHET --> learned how to do a chain when I was little... really got "hooked" (sorry) when I was sitting home preggo with #3 (she's an... active... child) in 2004. I haven't put it down since. *ROCKS --> Along with being a full time + mother & wife and Full time + restaurant slave I sometimes work on getting my bachelors degree in geology. I've been almost a Junior for... oh... 3 years.
